PVC AND U-PVC SELECTION GUIDE
PVC Masterbatch Selection for U-PVC Profiles, Pipes, and Extrusion
PVC masterbatch selection must consider the PVC formulation, stabilizer package, processing temperature, product geometry, and surface target—not only the requested color.

What Data Determines PVC Masterbatch Selection?
PVC is a production system that is sensitive to temperature history and additive package changes. Therefore, color concentrate; It should be read together with the main formulation, stabilizer, filler, process window and external environment expectation of the final product.
Formulation and carrier compatibility
The masterbatch to be used in U-PVC profile or pipe must have a flow and distribution compatible with the PVC type and additives in the formulation. Choosing based on color code alone without verifying fit can hide surface and process problems.
Geometry and surface expectation
Thin wall, thick tube, glossy profile and matte panel may give different optical results for the same color. The sample should be as representative of the actual thickness and surface texture as possible.
What to Look for in Profile and Pipe Extrusion?
Feed, mixing, screw behavior and temperature profile are monitored together for a stable PVC colour. Getting the color right alone is not enough; Tone, gloss and surface pattern along the line must also be maintained.
Dispersion and line control
Insufficient dispersion can create streaks, dots, or tone ripples across the profile. Masterbatch granule structure, premix and screw cutting effect should be evaluated in the same trial.
Thermal stability
If a color shift occurs when the waiting time or temperature increases, the stabilizer package and the remaining material in the machine should be checked as well as the masterbatch. The approved process range must be recorded.
Transition from Sample to Mass Production
The laboratory sample provides direction; The final approval is made on the actual raw material, additive package and production line. Color reference and process values are kept in the same quality record for repeatability.
Sample information to share
PVC formulation, filling ratio, stabilizer type, target color, product thickness, line temperatures and existing part sample, if any, should be shared with the technical team.
Approval standard
The approved physical part, color measurement, dosage, machine settings and production lot are archived together. A short revalidation is made when the formulation or raw material changes.
Short Technical Answers
Can any masterbatch be used for PVC?
No. The carrier structure, additive package, process temperature and end product expectation must be compatible with the PVC formulation. Compliance is verified by sample and line trial.
Why does color streak occur on U-PVC profile?
Irregular dosing, insufficient premix, poor dispersion, screw behavior or previous material remaining in the machine can cause streaking. Variables must be checked sequentially.
How to determine PVC masterbatch dosage?
Supplier recommendation is the starting value. Final dosage; Color strength is determined based on product thickness, PVC formulation and actual line sample.

Preparing a PVC sample trial
Information to provide
Provide the profile or pipe application, target colour and reference sample. Include the PVC formulation, stabiliser system, calcium carbonate and TiO₂ levels, dosing method and line temperatures. Share confidential formulation details privately with the technical team as needed.
A controlled production trial
Keep the formulation and line conditions constant. Compare surface finish, dispersion and colour under the same lighting and measurement conditions. Change one variable at a time and record dosage and results. Request product-specific documentation for outdoor use, food contact or other regulated applications; colour approval does not establish compliance.

What should you record during a trial?
These checks help distinguish possible causes; they are not a diagnosis or an approval of product suitability. Change one variable at a time and keep records.
| Observation | Possible cause | Check | Record |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shade differs from reference | A different formulation, filler or stabiliser | Compare the reference and trial formulations under the same conditions. | Formulation revision, batch and colour reference |
| Streaks or uneven colour | Changes in feeding, mixing or line conditions | Check dosing consistency and process records. | Dosage, temperature, line conditions and sample photo |
